Clarinetist Hyojun Kim blends artistry and versatility as both a performer and educator, with a musical career spanning South Korea and the United States. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Clarinet Performance from the University of Hartford’s Hartt School, where he was awarded the Full Hartt Talent Award Scholarship. He also holds both a Master of Music and a Professional Studies Certificate from the Manhattan School of Music, receiving the President’s Award and Dean’s List honors, and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music from Hanyang University in Seoul. His principal teachers include renowned clarinetists Charles Neidich and Ayako Oshima.


Hyojun has performed extensively as an orchestral and chamber musician with ensembles such as the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, the New York Wind Orchestra, the Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra, and the Union City Orchestra in United States. He has also collaborated with the Symphony S.O.N.G Orchestra and the TIMF Symphony Orchestra in South Korea. A passionate advocate for contemporary music, he has recorded with the ensemble Foot in the Door on Naxos Records and performed at festivals including the Sarasota Music Festival and the Korea–Alaska Friendship Day.


Recognized for both artistry and depth of musicianship, Hyojun has received numerous honors, including First Prize in the Manhattan International Music Competition, the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition, and the Korea Clarinet Association Music Competition, as well as winning the Paranov Concerto Competition at the Hartt School.


In addition to his performing career, Hyojun is devoted to teaching and mentorship. He served as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Hartford, where he taught undergraduate clarinet students and organized the annual Clarinet Day event. He has given masterclasses in South Korea and maintains an active private studio, guiding students through auditions, recitals, and competitions.
